What exactly is “regenerative agriculture” and what does it have to do with jeans?
Regenerative agriculture is agricultural practice that contributes to the enrichment of humus in the soil. This binds carbon, improves soil structure and increases biodiversity in the fields. Simply by cultivating the soil, its properties are sustainably improved. One positive effect is that plants in regenerative agriculture achieve their highest photosynthesis performance, meaning they bind more CO2 than plants under other cultivation methods. The formation of humus also binds carbon from greenhouse gases.
Is this organic or what?
Organic farming focuses on the fruit or product and does not consider the ecosystem as a whole. In organic farming, monocultures are not excluded - but regenerative also means maximum biodiversity.
Jeans and agriculture?
Our jeans have a very high proportion of recycled fibers, which are made from post-consumer material. However, after many washes, UV radiation, mechanical stress and other stresses that jeans can endure over the course of their life, the cotton fiber is very weakened, so there has to be a very good second wool that can be spun with the recycled fiber. The aim is to create a yarn that has only the best properties. A cotton fiber that comes from regenerative, European agriculture helps us achieve this.
This makes our denim fabric not only as sustainable as possible, but also as high-quality as possible.
